About Us: Empowering Journalists, Securing the Future of Media

In a country as diverse and dynamic as India, the role of journalists is crucial in maintaining the delicate balance between democracy and power. However, the challenges faced by journalists, from physical assaults to exploitation and threats to their livelihood, are often overlooked. This is where we come in—our organization exists to empower journalists, safeguard their rights, and ensure their well-being, both in the workplace and at home.
Founded by Shri Achin Chakraborty, our vision is to create a robust, nationwide support system that will ensure every journalist in India has access to the resources and protection they deserve. The safety and security of journalists is not just an obligation, but a fundamental necessity to preserve the integrity of the media industry and the democratic processes it upholds

Our Story: From Vision to Action—Building a Nationwide Network
Our journey began with the realization that many journalists across India were facing increasing threats to their safety, their livelihoods, and even their lives. These issues often went unaddressed, and journalists had nowhere to turn for support.
Driven by a deep commitment to change, Shri Achin Chakraborty and two other members traveled across India, particularly focusing on states where journalists were under assault or dealing with significant issues related to their safety and financial stability. Through these visits, they identified the core issues and challenges faced by journalists and their families. This led to the creation of a registered trade union under the Trade Union Act, 1926, a historic step toward securing the rights of journalists.
Our Key Achievements:
- Formation of the Registered Union: We established a trade union for journalists, which now operates in four key states: West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, and Delhi. The union serves as a support system, offering legal aid, assistance with workplace disputes, and advocating for journalists’ rights at the government level.
- Expanding Our Reach: While we’ve made great strides in these four states, our mission does not stop there. We are actively working to expand our presence to more states across India to ensure that every journalist has access to the resources and support they need, no matter where they are.
- Direct Action: When journalists reach out to us with complaints or issues, we take immediate action. We either address the issues directly with media houses through discussions or, if necessary, escalate the matter to the Labour Commissioner or other appropriate government authorities for resolution.
Workplace Fairness and Dispute Resolution: Standing by Journalists

Many journalists experience exploitation, poor working conditions, delayed wages, and even wrongful termination. In some cases, the management of media houses may turn a blind eye to the problems their employees face. We are here to ensure that journalists have a fair chance to be heard and treated justly.
Our Approach:
- Direct Mediation: When conflicts arise between journalists and their employers, we first attempt to resolve the issue by facilitating open dialogue and mediation. Our goal is to achieve a fair, amicable resolution for both parties.
- Escalation to Government Authorities: If the management is uncooperative, we escalate the issue to the Labour Commissioner or relevant government bodies to ensure that the journalist’s rights are protected, and justice is served.
- Legal Support and Resources: We provide legal assistance to journalists involved in disputes, ensuring they have access to expert advice and representation. Our legal team works to ensure that journalists’ employment contracts are fair and that their rights are upheld.
